Mazda isn’t content to rest on its laurels. While it already has a great lineup of SUVs, several more are in the works, and one that will be out soon is the Mazda CX-50. These are some of the early details we have in this compact SUV.

Power and Drivetrain

The base engine in the Mazda CX-50 is a 2.5-liter, inline-4 engine that puts out 187 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque. There is also a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. i-Activ AWD® is standard.

Performance

The Mazda CX-50 comes with a drive-mode selector so you can customize how you drive. This will let you make adjustments to the tuning of the G-vectoring control system, throttle response, and steering feedback. And while Mazda isn’t probably the first name to come to mind when thinking about an off-road vehicle, the Mazda CX-50 aims to change that. For one thing, it comes with a drive mode specifically for off-roading. It also has all-terrain tires.

Styling

The Mazda CX-50 is a striking SUV. It has a squared-off shape in front, along with unique headlights and taillights. It comes with silver and black wheels, along with black plastic cladding around the wheel wells. To add to its ruggedness, the front and rear bumper trim is designed to look like skid plates.
