In case you haven’t noticed, gas prices are skyrocketing across the Lutherville area and beyond. Drivers who are finding themselves spending an arm and a leg every time they fill up their Mazda car are looking for ways to save at the pump.

Most of those ways involve using less gasoline and utilizing certain driving techniques. Here at our Mazda service center, our mechanics are happy to share their tips!

Reduce Idling Time

Starting your car and leaving it running in the driveway wastes fuel. Make sure that you’re ready to go before you start the engine of your Mazda CX-5 or other model so that you’re not wasting gas and causing air pollution.

Plan Routes

Try to avoid unnecessary trips that waste gasoline. Plan your shopping trips and other outings so that your overall driving time is reduced. For instance, if your grocery store is near your job, get groceries after work instead of making a separate dedicated trip.

Keep Up with Maintenance

If you haven’t brought your Mazda car to our Mazda service in some time, doing so can help your fuel economy. Oil changes in particular help your engine perform at optimal efficiency, as do properly inflated tires. Also, make sure not to neglect an illuminated check engine light.

Additional Tips

  • Monitor how and when you brake; excessive braking wastes gas
  • Slow down and drive steady; driving fast creates drag
  • Change your filters on time
  • Use cruise control when able
  • Anticipate traffic and keep a steady speed
