You’re probably familiar with the Mazda logo, but what makes this swoopy and elegant emblem really stand out? Here at Heritage Mazda Towson, we’re excited to share not just a wide inventory of Mazda models, but a closer look at the history and importance of the Mazda name. Here’s what you’ll want to know about the meaning behind the iconic Mazda logo.
MAZDA Logo Early History and Evolution
Did you know that the Mazda logo hasn’t always looked this way? The Mazda logo has gone through significant changes and evolutions since the very first in 1934, when the logo was the Mazda name written in illustrative lettering. From 1936 to 1959, the Mazda logo represented both the river of Mazda’s hometown of Hiroshima, and the three Ms of Mazda Motor Manufacturer, and had an elegant wing design.
Mazda’s overseas expansion saw a logo with bold, straight lettering, at the same time as a 1960s mod circle style. The block name as we recognize it today came into use in the 1970s and lasted until the 1990s.
MAZDA Logo Modern Meaning
In the 1990s, the circle M Mazda logo we know today came into use. The wings in the oval shape stand for “growth” and “improvement”, and the symbol as a whole represents Mazda’s creativity and forward-thinking approach to automotive design and engineering. A similar version of that logo continues up to today, and it’s a promise from Mazda to always keep building for the future.
