Have you been shopping for a Mazda CX-9 and having trouble finding a new one? The Mazda CX-9 was actually discontinued and is no longer part of the Mazda lineup. At Heritage Mazda Towson, we’re diving into all the details surrounding this model.
MAZDA CX-9 Overview
The Mazda CX-9 was first introduced in 2006. At the time, the three-row SUV was the largest in the Mazda lineup, with space for up to seven passengers (or six with second-row captain’s chairs). At the end of the 2023 model year, however, the Mazda CX-9 was discontinued.
MAZDA Lineup Shakeup
While the SUV garnered plenty of attention, the Mazda lineup has had a shakeup in recent years. Mazda decided to discontinue the Mazda CX-9 to make way for one of their newest models — the Mazda CX-90. While the new model sounds similar, they do have key distinctions. The new model helps pave the way for the future of Mazda vehicles, which includes more upscale cabins, premium features, and even an available plug-in hybrid powertrain.
All About the 2024 MAZDA CX-90
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is also a spacious three-row SUV, although it’s slightly larger than the Mazda CX-9. In fact, select models have space to seat up to eight comfortably.
The Mazda CX-90 also gives you the unique option of choosing an efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain. The plug-in hybrid models pair an e-SKYACTIV®-PHEV 2.5-liter engine with a 68 kW electric motor for a combined 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, so there’s no compromising on performance either.
